Today, March 14th 2019 the NWRHA joins the global community in commemorating World Kidney Day.
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is currently a worldwide burden that causes at least 2.4 million deaths per year and is now the 6th fastest growing cause of death. In Trinidad and Tobago, CKD is the 4th leading cause of death.
This year, World Kidney Day sets out to raise awareness of the high and increasing burden of kidney diseases worldwide and the need for strategies for kidney diseases prevention and management.
This year's theme....Kidney Health for Everyone Everywhere calls for universal health coverage (UHC) for prevention and early treatment of kidney disease.
Your Kidneys are an essential part of your body's function and vital to the sustenance of life as:
1. Kidneys regulate water
2. Kidneys remove waste products and help to balance the body's minerals
3. Kidneys produce hormones
Take the necessary time out to check up on your kidneys health. Engage in correct kidney care in order to protect and preserve your kidneys for a long healthy life!
